Volstead was seen as an additional tool for limiting the rights of people of color, the poor, and a large wave of Catholic European immigrants, all of whom were seen as a threat to the “American way of life” of the 1920s.
With the advent of better roads and more dependable cars, camping became a popular hobby. With little more than a car and some helpful tips, families could travel economically and find enjoyment in Nature, whether for a weekend or a month.
